‘Get Over Here!’ Sound familiar? For those who have played the highly acclaimed fighting game series ‘Mortal Kombat’, this is Scorpion performing his signature spear move that brings his opponent close to him just before he gives him or her an ass-kicking. It won’t be long till we hear ‘Finish Him’ and it’s time for a brutal fatality.

This is what gamers in the ‘90s grew up on and the franchise is still strong today. We saw a live-action feature film by the same name back in 1995 with an excellent soundtrack, and the series is now set to become a television show. According to Digital Spy, digital production house Blue Ribbon Content will be producing and developing the show for Warner Brothers. WB has set up the Blue Ribbon to make exciting content on digital platforms “based on existing and new properties”.

The television show is expected to be based on the upcoming entry in the long running franchise ‘Mortal Kombat X’. While the show will go in depth into the most famous fighters, it will introduce new combatants as well. More details are expected to be revealed in the near future.

So fans, which of your favorite characters do you want back? The usual suspects including Kano, Scorpion, Sub Zero, Quan Chi and Raiden are all set to return. We hope Liu Kang, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage, who were in the ‘90s live action film, also return for the series.

This is really exciting news and it goes to show how much gaming impacts other entertainment media. Successful franchises based on gaming also include the ‘Resident Evil’ films. Hopefully the show will be a blast. Are you prepared to choose your destiny?
