It looks like Toyota’s Fortuner is about to get some stiff competition. After the successful launch of the Picanto and Sportage, Kia Motors is gearing up to rollout their big brother – the Sorento.

The 7-seater SUV will reportedly be offered in three variants: a 2.4-liter Front Wheel Drive, a 2.4-liter All Wheel Drive and a 3.5-liter Front Wheel Drive. According to a leading automotive site the starting price for the 2.4 Front Wheel Drive will be 6,999,000 rupees, while the All Wheel Drive will cost 7,999,000 rupees, and the 3.5-liter 8,399,000 rupees.

With the launch of the Sorento it appears the South Korean carmaker is targeting the upper segment of SUV consumers, though it’s pertinent to mention here that while Kia has launched the fourth generation of the Sorento, globally, for the Pakistani market it will most likely be the third generation we will see. The third generation is built on Hyundai-Kia’s shared platform known as the ‘Y6’. The Y6 platform is also the base for previous models including the Hyundai Sonata, the Kia Optima and Carnival, and the Hyundai Santa FE.

Exterior features on the Sorento model to launch in Pakistan, include: day time running lamps, ice cube LED fog lights, LED tail and stop lamps, a roof rack, skid plate, and a chrome metallic grille. Interior features include: a panoramic sunroof, steering switches, a rear-view camera, and a 3.5” TFT LCD Display.

A great addition to the local auto market we cannot wait to see the Sorento cruising around the streets of Karachi.
