Japanese giant Sony claims it has triumphed over both its competitors, Microsoft and Nintendo, in the game of numbers. The company revealed it has sold more than 30.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles since its release in late 2013.

Although Microsoft has yet to reveal its sales figures for the Xbox One, Sony is confident it has already won the race. Their newest-generation console shows “the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history”.

According to VGChartz’s unofficial count, 15.6 million Xbox One units have been sold since November 2013, followed by Nintendo’s Wii U with 11 million units. If we consider this to be accurate, it means that the PlayStation 4 boasts a larger fan base than both its competitors combined.

But the fight is far from over… In recent months Microsoft has been hot on Sony’s heels. For the first time since April, sales of the Xbox One exceeded sales of the PS4 after an amazing response to the Xbox exclusive ‘Halo 5: Guardians’.
