Budding actor Sushant Singh Rajput stars in this exciting Bollywood flick ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!’ based on the fictional Indian detective by the same name. It is a period film based in the 1940s directed by Dibakar Banerjee in collaboration with Yash Raj Films. Banerjee has previously directed hits including ‘Shanghai’ and ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’.
The film follows aspiring detective Byomkesh Bakshi on his first case. Apparently his first case could be the last of his life and career because he goes up against an evil genius. However, he uses his wits and intelligence in an attempt to outsmart the nefarious criminal in a world where murder, international political intrigue and seduction runs rampant. Co-starring with Rajput are Swastika Mukherjee and Moumita Chakraborty.
According to Bollywood Life, former Nazi German leader Adolf Hitler plays the primary antagonist in the film. Byomkesh Bakshi is a creation of Saradindu Bandopadhyay and his first mystery was written in 1932 by Pother Kanta called ‘The Gramophone Pin Mystery’. In total 33 stories were written but only one remains incomplete due to Bandopadhyay’s passing. About replacing the ‘i’ with ‘y’ in the title of the film, director Banerjee was quoted by Outlook India saying, “For typographical balance. The ‘i’ at the end feels too thin, ‘y’ is a stronger alphabet.”
‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!’ is set to be exciting, intense and furious and is set to release on April 3, 2015.
