After the Box Office success of action-comedy ‘21 Jump Street’, jokers Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are all-set to return next month, in the laugh-out-loud follow-up. Titled ‘22 Jump Street’ the sequel will once again by directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
The first was an action-comedy based on the classic 1987 television series by Stephen J. Cannell and Patrick Hasburgh, which made Johnny Depp into a household name. Although the original series had a more serious tone to it, the film’s comedic take proved to be a hit with audiences grossing over $200 million worldwide.
‘22 Jump Street’ sees Hill and Tatum reprise their roles as cops on the beat Morton Schmidt and Greg Jenko. The sequel sees two of MCPD’s finest ‘graduate’ from high school and enroll at a local college in their next undercover assignment.
Hill doesn’t just star in the film but also contributes as Writer and Producer. He has given some memorable performances recently including in the Oscar-nominated ‘Moneyball’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.
‘Teen Agent’ star Richard Grieco returns as Officer Dennis Booker from the original series which should excite longtime fans. The original did see Depp make an un-credited cameo, so it will be interesting to see how Booker fares with his return.
The sequel will also see the return of rapper Ice Cube and Nick Offerman as Captain Dickson and Deputy Chief Hardy respectively. Action star Kurt Russell’s son Wyatt is also set to appear after reportedly turning down a role in ‘The Hunger Games’, to be a part of this film.
The star-studded ‘22 Jump Street’ is slated for release 13th June, and should make for a helluva follow-up!
