Chinese tech is on FIRE these days. Guangzhou-based startup company Ehang, unveiled the world’s first commercially available passenger drone at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Ehang 184 Autonomous Aerial Vehicle, is a one-seater passenger drone capable of carrying a single person weighing up to 220 lbs. Ehang claims the drone can lift and transport humans for 23 minutes on a single battery charge. The drone is navigated via the Ehang app, which allows users to input their destination into a 12-inch touchscreen display before takeoff.

Ehang states the vehicle is designed primarily for traveling short-to-medium distances of around 10 miles or so, and will fly at a speed of up to 60 miles per hour. According to its website, even though the drone is thunderstorm-proof the command center will prohibit the vehicle from taking off during extreme weather conditions.

The company has already developed a fully-functional prototype and is currently exploring opportunities for mass production. Stay tuned for more…
