‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ is the latest installment in the hugely-successful franchise following three years in development. But what’s more, is that the latest game in the series will feature two-time Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey as the primary antagonist.

The ‘House of Cards’ star plays the role of Jonathan Irons, CEO of Atlas — the military’s largest private corporation. In the game, Irons goes rogue and starts working against the US government after declaring they have not been successful in implementing democracy around the world and shifting the balance of power.

“Right from the get-go, [Kevin Spacey] was number one… the guy is one of the best actors of our generation,” said Sledgehammer Co-Founder Glenn Schofield. “He’s a real pro.” Schofield also added that there will be no characters from the previous games saying “we wanted to start new and start fresh with a clean slate.”

‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ takes place across a variety of locations around the world including South Korea, Greece and Seattle. The game features the most futuristic weapons and technologies as it takes place in 2054, unlike the first three ‘Call of Duty’ games which were set in World War II. Some of these weapons include automatic rifles featuring holographic displays, multi-usage grenades and a new class of energy-driven beam devices.

Taking on the role of an entry-level operator, players are equipped with exoskeletons which serve as armor and provide improved physical abilities. These abilities include rocket jumping, scaling vertical surfaces and launching threat-detection grenades from the wrists. The game also features cloaking devices, drones, portable cover points and robotic tanks.

When asked about the advanced weaponry in the game Michael Condrey, Co-Founder of Sledgehammer Games said, “to keep it grounded [the weapons were] based on research we know is happening.”

The ‘Call of Duty’ series has sold over 100 million copies since the first game released back in 2003. Developer Activision estimates that the franchise has around 40 million active players worldwide.

‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ releases in November, later this year and will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.
