According to recent reports, video games giant Ubisoft has sold in excess of 73 million units in the ‘Assassins Creed’ franchise. The franchise debuted on the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in November of 2007.
The series revolves around the age-old conflict of the Knights Templar and the assassins, and takes gamers to ancient cities like Jerusalem, Damascus, Florence and Venice.
The franchise is still going strong with its latest release ‘Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag’. Black Flag was a major hit for Ubisoft and was also one of the major launch titles on next-generation consoles the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Black Flag gives gamers control over a full-fledged pirate, and command of your own ship with a crew that sings ‘shanties’ on your ocean voyages. Fans of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise are sure to get a kick out of looting and plundering, just like Captain Jack Sparrow.
The latest iteration in the franchise ‘Assassins Creed: Unity’, is slated for release later this year and will hopefully continue to build on the success of previous games.
The series is Ubisoft’s top-selling franchise ahead of ‘Just Dance’, Tom Clancy’s ‘Splinter Cell’, ‘Rainbow Six’ and the ‘Ghost Recon’ series. The company is also well-known for bringing back the popular ‘Prince of Persia’ franchise.
