Tag Heuer’s Monza is a stunning limited edition timepiece. The bold-statement of a watch is a recreation of the 1930’s-inspired Monza, which was released in 1975 to mark Ferrari’s World Championship victory with Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni. It was on sale until the early 1980’s.
In the early 2000’s, a “re-edition” range was created and put on the market for five years before it too, phased out. It wasn’t until 2011, after popular demand that the luxury watch manufacturer introduced yet another edition. The result? Yet another mind-boggling Monza masterpiece.
The newest edition is a classic beauty. This time Tag Heuer sought inspiration from both previous editions with the dial reminiscent of the 30’s and the casing suggestive of the 70’s. The dial is exceptionally easy to read with its high contrast hands and numerals. The Chronograph is operated by a single-push button at the end of the crown. Tag Heuer uses their signature heritage logo reading just “Heuer” with the “Monza” branding right above.
The casing for the new edition is almost identical to the range released 10 years ago. It has the same cushion-case design with a polished outer ring and brushed metal-finish on the top bezel. In steel, the case is 38mm wide and is available with either a black or brown alligator strap.
But Tag Heuer luxury timepieces like this one aren’t produced for mass consumption. The latest Monza is part of a limited edition range that consists of just 1500 timepieces, each priced at around $4,000.
