2015 was a great year for Fiza Farhan, and 2016 has certainly started off with a bang! Last year, 28-year-old Farhan’s name was among the Forbes ’30 Under 30′ list of young social entrepreneurs. She has now been named as a member of a United Nations panel dedicated to the economic empowerment of women.
The CEO of Buksh Foundation and serving as director on the board of Buksh Energy, Farhan will be contributing to finding ways for UN bodies, governments, private sector players and other stakeholders to create an environment for the economic uplift of women across the globe.
On the panel, Ms. Farhan will be working in collaboration with leaders from the IMF, the World Bank, and UN Women among other game-changers on the global stage.
The panel will be seeking input from global economists, trade union leaders, business experts and social activists to formulate policies that will help bring about a positive change in the participation, contribution and empowerment of women in the financial sector.
Through the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the panel will put forward recommendations that can be implemented as part of the social policy that governments, especially in developing countries like Pakistan, can put into practice to include women in the workforce and the decision-making process that will lead to greater economic growth.
