How do two ‘regular’ tourists gain over a million followers on Instagram and proceed to take the web sphere by storm? The secret lies in their unique collection of iconic photographs taken at different locations across the globe.
The ‘Follow Me To’ project is the latest phenomenon to send the social media sphere into over-drive. The brainchild of film director Murad Osmann and journalist Natalia Zakharova, the provocative series show Zakharova with her back towards the camera encircled by some of the most awe-inspiring scenery known to man.
The novel idea came about when Zakharova, frustrated by her boyfriend Osmann’s obsession with taking the perfect shot, literally made him drag behind her while she led the way! Impeccably dressed and meticulously captured, the social media sphere’s newest power-couple has travelled to some of the furthest corners of the globe.
Some of their more famous backdrops include Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona with Zakharova wearing a Lionel Messi jersey, the Dead Sea in Jordan, Moscow’s Kremlin, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and Azerbaijan’s gorgeous Baku city (to name a few). Osmann himself has been happy to remain unseen, but it is his Instagram account that has witnessed the most traffic. With more than 1.1 million followers the emerging talent has even been commissioned by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
The project’s viral impact is further witnessed by the hashtag #followmeto. It has now spawned a Facebook page with more than 78000 likes. This is one of the best examples of how social media can turn a ‘normal’ couple into a global phenomenon and make them both celebrities in their own right.
It’s not just about the photographs… it is the way they’ve been shot to perfection. Just looking at the photos makes one want to hold Zakharova’s hand because the backdrops are so beautiful and the images so crisp.
The dynamic duo has since been featured on global news networks including CNN and NBC. They were last seen in Hong Kong… We wonder where they will have us #followthemto next?
