When two icons from Pakistan’s entertainment industry unite for a cause, fireworks happen! Pakistan’s only Emmy and Academy award-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, under her banner SOC Films, teams up with veteran talent Fakhr-e-Alam for a show that seeks to shed light on social issues facing Pakistan today.
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy achieved fame for her Oscar-winning documentary ‘Saving Face’, about acid attack victims in Pakistan. Her other major works include ‘Transgenders: Pakistan’s Open Secret’ and ‘Pakistan’s Taliban Generation’.
Fakhr-e-Alam is a multi-faceted artist. He founded the first rap group in Pakistan back in the mid 90s called Yatagaan and rose to fame with his hit song ‘Bhangra Rap’. Later he hosted the ‘Pepsi Top of the Pops’ and ‘Music Channel Charts’ show on Pakistan’s first ever private channel, the now-defunct NTM. He would later release more albums and become popularly known as FALAM.
His vast and extensive experience as a host combined with award-winning direction from Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy will give viewers an insight into various social issues that are hidden from the public eye. The new show titled ‘Aghaz-e-Safar’, will have its Red Carpet premiere tonight at The Place in Phase 8, in the posh suburb of Defence, Karachi.
