The football world was rocked today by reports Argentine superstar and four-time winner of the Ballon d’Or Lionel Messi, may be on his way out…
According to an article published in the Metro, the Barcelona forward has become a top target for English giants Manchester United. The report states Messi’s £200 million release clause may be met by the 13-time Premier League champions.
Messi has on previous occasions hinted at the possibility of leaving the Camp Nou, and his father-agent has made it quite clear that they are open to offers. While speaking to The Sun Jorge Messi was quoted saying, “If the club were to come to us saying ‘we’ve got an offer and we’d like to accept it’ then of course we would have to study it.”
Since the story broke, news and sports publications the world over have been abuzz with rumors and speculation. It is said that if Messi chooses to leave the club where he has played since 2000, we will witness the biggest transfer battle in club football history.
Aside from United, it has been observed that European giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG), AS Monaco, Manchester City and Chelsea are all expected to vie for his services. And although we have yet to see an expressed interest from German juggernauts Bayern Munich, with former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola at the helm, we certainly can’t rule them out either.
Although Barcelona would be reluctant to let go of their most prized possession, any club willing to meet the release clause will have full access to arguably the world’s best football player.
