Cesc Fabregas first joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old boy, who then proceeded to work his way-up to eventually become club Captain, not to mention one of their biggest stars ever…
But after eight long years at the club, the Spaniard decided to go back to boyhood band Barcelona three years ago. Now, with Fabregas’ future uncertain under new Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, he was reportedly looking forward to a return ‘home’ to the Emirates.
But if reports are to be believed, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may not be interested either. Despite a rumored buy-back clause in his contract allowing the Frenchman to re-sign him at a reasonable price, the Gunners boss seems reluctant to do so. Arsenal already have former Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla in mid field, so finding a space for the former Captain seems like a difficult task.
Fabregas was also reportedly the target of 13-time Premier League champions Manchester United last season. But unfortunately, former boss David Moyes was unable to have him join the Red Devils after two failed transfer bids.
Nevertheless, it appears all hope is not lost for the Spanish international. According to the Telegraph, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is looking to make a reported bid for him in the region of £30 million, as a long-term replacement for departing Frank Lampard.
If the deal goes through, Fabregas should have an instant impact considering his extensive experience in the Barclays Premier League as well as with the Catalan side. In addition, he also has the ability to play forward or ‘in the hole’.
‘The Special One’ would be able to silence fans of rival clubs who have criticized his defensive ‘bus-parking’ tactics against attacking sides. He would also be able to fit-in well with their other attack-minded stars including Eden Hazard, Willian and André Schürrle.
Another option for Mourinho was Atletico Madrid’s Koke, but he is reportedly being targeted by Barcelona. Aleti striker Diego Costa and Paris Saint Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, are reportedly also linked to Chelsea, and would add a great deal of firepower to the South-London side.
So far it looks likely Fabregas will be wearing a blue jersey next season. If he does in fact move to Stamford Bridge it will be interesting to see how he goes-up against his former employers.
