According to the UN World Tourism Organization and other surveys, France is the most popular country in the world for tourists. It’s quite surprising then, that neither the Eiffel Tower, nor the Notre Dame Cathedral, nor indeed any French landmark could find a place on the list of beloved landmarks across the globe, released by TripAdvisor.
The Great Wall of China, the Statue of Liberty, and the Burj Khalifa don’t find a spot on the list either. Gathering data for over a year, TripAdvisor’s experts took into account the ‘quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for landmarks across the world’.
The ruins of Machu Picchu topped the list of landmarks tourists loved most. In second and third places are Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Cambodia’s Angkor Wat.
Other popular places that feature on this list include St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, India’s Taj Mahal, Cordoba’s Mosque-Cathedral, Church of the Saviour in St. Petersburg Russia, the Alhambra in Granada, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington DC, and the Milan Cathedral.
For those planning their summer vacation, the to-do list just got a little longer.
