Shah Rukh Khan’s forthcoming film ‘Fan‘ is accumulating a lot of flak on social media lately, even prior to its release. The film is being touted as a complete rip-off of the 1996 thriller ‘The Fan’ starring Wesley Snipes and Robert De Niro.

But it appears the Badshah of Bollywood is having none of it. In a recent episode of ‘Comedy Nights Bachao’, the 50-year-old star said the idea for the story was first narrated to him by late veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra.

“Very few people know that the concept of Fan was first narrated to me by Yashji about 10 years ago. While I was excited to explore the idea back then, for some reason it never happened. Today, I’m glad we could bring his idea to life,” SRK revealed.

Khan, who worked with Chopra in films like ‘Darr‘, ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Veer-Zaara’ and ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ – his final film, was known to be especially close to the veteran talent. The film has even been produced by Chopra’s production house Yash Raj Films (now under the stewardship of his son Aditya Chopra).

‘Fan’ is slated to release April 15, 2016.
