Though the summer blockbuster season may be over, there are still a helluva lotta exciting releases to look forward to… Whether you’re a fan of action, suspense, comedy or drama the month of October promises to be an exciting one. Below is a list of our five most-awaited film releases for the coming month:

1. Gone Girl

Future Batman, Ben Affleck, stars opposite Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris in a film about a man who becomes the subject of media attention when his wife suddenly disappears. Based on a Gillian Flynn novel by the same name, the film directed by David Fincher (of ‘Fight Club’ fame) was a hit with the critics when screened at the New York Film Festival. This is one October flick not to be missed.

2. Left Behind

90s action star Nicolas Cage is hoping to resurrect his action career with the upcoming apocalyptic film ‘Left Behind’. He will feature alongside ‘Caroline in the City’ star Lea Thompson in a film based on a novel by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. It is a reboot of the 2000 film that starred ‘Growing Pains’ actor Kirk Cameron. Thompson and Cage’s characters are part of a group of survivors in a world on the edge of destruction. Vic Armstrong directs the feature and hopefully with Cage and Thompson in the lead, it should make for a good popcorn flick.

3. The Judge

‘Iron Man’ Robert Downey Jr. returns to big screen in director David Dobkin’s dramedy ‘The Judge’. He stars as hotshot lawyer Hank Palmer who goes back to his hometown where his father has been accused of murder. While in search for the truth Hank also has the opportunity to renew ties with his alienated family. Downey Jr. is joined by a stellar cast including Robert Duvall and Vera Farmiga. Considering his track record ‘The Judge’ should make for an interesting watch, particularly for those who want to see him out of the Mark II suits and doing something a little bit more “fresh”.

4. Dracula Untold

The Prince of Darkness returns to the silver screen in style with ‘Dracula Untold’. Gary Shore directs the supernatural film starring Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper and Samantha Barks. Evans plays Vlad Tepes, who makes a deal with the forces of evil to safeguard his family and kingdom. He eventually becomes the vampire Count Dracula. This is his story, and for those who want to watch a real vampire film (instead of that bullsh*t ‘Twilight’ series) THIS is the film for you.

5. Fury

Brad Pitt, the gent once named ‘The Sexiest Man Alive’ by People magazine is back in a hotly-anticipated new action film titled ‘Fury’. Joined by funnyman Shia LaBeouf and Clint Eastwood’s son Scott, the film takes place towards the end of the Second World War. Pitt plays a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy leading a Sherman Tank with a crew of five men on what is sure to be a suicide mission. Going up against Nazi Germany, Wardaddy and his ‘A-Team’ find themselves in trouble with the odds stacked heavily against them. But will they succeed in their mission or will they all die in vain? We’ll find out soon enough when the film hits theaters October 24th.

While it’s been a pretty sh*t September, the month of October seems to be looking brighter… Let’s hope these titles live up to expectation.
