Riding high on galaxy-sized expectations, the new Star Wars film has already sold pre-opening tickets in excess of $50 million with less than a month to go until its release.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film has caused a tsunami on social media with fans counting down days as if waiting for Judgment Day. According to the latest reports, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ will make its debut in 4500 cinemas (at least) eclipsing the $85 million bow set by ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’. Old-timers Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill return in the seventh space opera, starring alongside newbies Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac.

It’s been over 10 years since the last Star Wars film and analysts estimate, The Force Awakens will be the third-highest grossing film of all time, trailing behind James Cameron masterpieces Avatar and Titanic.

The film is slated to hit cinemas December 2015.
