Hold on to your seats boys (and girls) because have we got some news for you… According to the latest reports, Hollywood heartthrob Matt Damon is ready to return to the hyper-successful Bourne franchise!

Damon confirmed the news after friend and former co-star Ben Affleck revealed to E! News, “Well, [Damon’s] going to be doing a ‘Bourne’ movie next fall when I’ve just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness”. The ‘Elysium’ and ‘Interstellar’ star was quoted in Variety saying, “Yes, next year. It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”

This is possibly the best news for fans of the franchise that missed his presence more than ever when ‘The Bourne Legacy’ star Jeremy Renner took over… That isn’t to imply that Renner did a bad job or that his run as Aaron Cross in the franchise is coming to an end… But if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the James Bond franchise, it’s that nobody’s as good as the original!

Studio Universal is reportedly developing a Justin Lin-directed sequel to ‘The Bourne Legacy’, also slated for release sometime in 2016.

During the time Damon played the troubled super-spy between 2002 and 2007, the Bourne films grossed close to a billion dollars worldwide. It was also reported earlier in the summer that director Paul Greengrass was unsure about whether or not to do another film as he was doubtful it would perform as well (Oh please Paul… Don’t be modest). With Greengrass on-board and Damon all-set to return, fans of the spy-thriller genre are already squirming in their seats with excitement.
