It appears Tom Cruise is getting ready to take the super-successful ‘Mission Impossible’ franchise for a fifth outing of espionage and thrills. The franchise which was rebooted in 1996 has spawned four blockbuster follow-ups and drawn comparisons to Britain’s top secret agent, James Bond.

The last film ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ went on to become the highest-grossing film starring Tom Cruise, as well as the most successful film in the franchise.

Now if reports are to be believed, Hollywood’s favorite agent (after Jason Bourne) will be returning to the big-screen with his ever-loyal (maybe) IMF team. According to IMDB, ‘Jack Reacher’ director Christopher McQuarrie will be coming-in as the new ‘Boss-man’.

McQuarrie previously won an Oscar for penning the critically acclaimed 90s hit ‘The Usual Suspects’, and it seems like Cruise’s confidence in him paid off when ‘Reacher’ went on to become a box-office smash.

Jeremy Renner is all-set to reprise his role as IMF Chief Analyst and former field agent William Brandt. Renner has had a great deal of success lately, with recent blockbusters including: ‘The Bourne Legacy’, ‘American Hustle’ and Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’.

Action-star Ving Rhames has played Ethan Hunt’s right-hand man Luther Stickel, since the first film and is also believed to be returning. Other rumored co-stars include Paula Patton who may reprise her role as field agent Jane Carter and Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain, who it is believed will play Hunt’s right-hand lady.

Though reports of a lead-villain have yet to surface, it is hoped that with the plethora of young talent to flood the industry in the last few years, that it will be a refreshing selection.

Though anything has yet to be officially announced, we can confirm that ‘Mission Impossible 5’ will be in full-color. The hotly-anticipated film is slated for release December 25, 2015.
