Nearly four decades after the release of the original, versatile English talent Tom Hardy will be stepping into one of Mel Gibson’s most iconic roles – ‘Mad Max’… Gibson, the superstar that gave us the ‘Lethal Weapon’ franchise and Oscar-winning director behind ‘Braveheart’ first made his name with the Australian blockbuster.

The 1979 Box Office smash resulted in two sequels ‘Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior’ and ‘Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome’. According to Indiewire, the series is being re-visited by original director George Miller as the first film in a new trilogy.

Hardy has been cast as the hardened road-warrior Max Rockatansky. He is paired opposite South African bombshell Charlize Theron who will be playing Imperator Furiosa. Theron won an Oscar for her extraordinary performance as Aileen Wuornos, in the highly-acclaimed biopic ‘Monster’. Her new role will reportedly see her get a ‘bad-ass’ makeover with a shaved head and ‘no bullsh*t’ attitude. Entertainment Weekly has reported the new film will feature only a “few digital effects and even less dialogue”.

The 69-year-old director of all previous films is reportedly looking to tell a linear story based on a chase at the beginning of the film. “Set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life,” the hotly-anticipated film will follow two rebels on the run, who just might be able to restore a new world order.

According to The Telegraph the original ‘Mad Max’ held the record for the world’s most profitable film… Let’s see if the reported $100 million reboot fares as well.

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ is slated to release in theaters 15th May, 2015.
