If Robert Downey Jr. ever quits the ‘Avengers’ franchise, then his likely replacement could very well be the world’s best footballer Lionel Messi. The Argentine sensation has shown his acting skills in several advertisements and in his most recent collaboration with Samsung along with a host of other well-known athletes sees him taking on the role of Tony Stark’s alter-ego Iron Man. This latest promotional video is to support the release of Marvel’s latest blockbuster ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.
According to the Mirror, Messi is featured in a two-part promotion with the Korean tech giant as he assembles alongside Swiss cyclist John John Florence, NFL’s Eddie Lacy, Hawaiian surfer John John Florence. A young fourth-grader by the name of Bobby Martinez is given the honor of portraying Captain America. Cobie Smulders who is Maria Hill in both Avengers films also makes an appearance in both videos. Messi makes a cameo in the first but he is the focus in the second part when he attacks his enemies with bicycle kicks as well as Iron Man’s own attacks.
Messi looks like he is having a blast as Iron Man and we would certainly not mind the Barcelona forward taking over from Robert Downey Jr. The four-time Ballon d’Or winner kicks ass and shows why he is one of the biggest sports superstars in the world. Surprisingly, unlike Downey Jr., he appears rather humble and modest outside the Iron Man suit. Once he is suited up via the Oculus Rift VR glasses and Samsung Galaxy S6, he takes out bad guys in true action hero style!
Messi will be competing in the UEFA Champions League semi-final as part of the Barcelona squad against German juggernauts Bayern Munich over two legs. The first leg is set to take place tomorrow and we are sure Messi will be showing off his skills and hopefully score a few goals. He will also get a chance to reunite with his former manager and mentor Pep Guardiola who now manages Bayern Munich. We hope the match is as exciting as his Samsung Avengers promo!
