Real Madrid will be defending their ‘La Decima’ UEFA Champions League title in style this season, as they sport a new dragon-inspired kit from sportswear giant Adidas. Available in sunburst orange or jet black, the kit is rather fitting for Spain’s most feared attacking line-up.
According to The Daily Mail, the jersey is specifically intended for Champions League games. Designed by award-winning Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, it features a dragon king that ‘symbolizes the greatness, glory and power of the club’. The ‘dragon bird’ according to Adidas, ‘represents the clubs resistance, determination and agility on its way to the victory’.
The 10-time European Champions will clearly be making a statement on Champions League nights at the Santiago Bernabeu. Carlo Ancelotti’s men look primed to take on all sides come September when the season-long tournament begins. This time, Los Blancos have been replenished by World Cup heroes James Rodriguez of Colombia and Toni Kroos of Germany, who will add strength in attack and midfield respectively.
Real Madrid opened their La Liga season with a two goal win over recently promoted club Cordoba. They did lose the SuperCopa de Espana (Spanish Super Cup) over two legs against current La Liga champions and local rivals Atletico Madrid.
It’s a hit and miss-type scenario but Real have a supreme team this season that can outscore any opposition, including rivals Barcelona. Hopefully the new dragon jersey will inspire Los Merengues to add their eleventh European silverware and reclaim the top spot in La Liga.
