Musical prodigy Pharrell Williams aka Pharrell, is attempting to take on the fashion world by collaborating with classic French trunk-maker Moynat. According to Hypebeast, Moynat’s repertoire includes everything from silk scarves and leather pouches to handbags based on vintage steam locomotives — all hand-crafted with acrylic resin or ebony. The Pharrell x Moynat capsule will be made available next month at the luxury boutique Colette in Paris.
The American singer-songwriter, rapper and record producer is not new to such fashion collaborations. Previous partnerships include Comme des Garçons, Moncler, G-Star, Uniqlo and even sportswear giant Adidas. While speaking to WWD, Colette’s Creative Director Ramesh Nair said that he had a special atelier in Italy complete the train carving that took three days to finish. The idea behind the trains was to bring out the child in “every grown-up guy”.
According to Complex, the bags are designed with resin featuring brass smokestack, side rods and steam-dome clap. Moynat said that their Creative and Purchasing Director Sarah Andelman introduced the hip-hop sensation to the brand after he was taken by the aroma of their ‘Wonderwood’ perfume that she was wearing.
Pharrell has become one of the top musical artists of his generation, especially after the stellar success of his super-hit single ‘Happy’. The song won him a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Original Song’. As a musician and record producer he has collaborated with the likes of Daft Punk, Jay-Z, Robin Thicke, Snoop Dogg and Gwen Stefani (to name a few).
No doubt fashionistas the world over will be looking to adorn the latest ‘must-have’ accessory from one of the globe’s most creative talents. The ebony and resin versions will sell for a reported €3200 and €10,000 respectively.
Unlike the iPhone 6 these are truly limited edition, so make sure whatever happens come October 13th, you’re standing in line at Colette!
