WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange may just take up a new career in fashion having played cat-and-mouse with British authorities for the past two years. The Australian Publisher is expected to make his modeling debut this September, at London Fashion Week.
According to The Independent, Vivienne Westwood’s son Ben, has hired the master-hacker to feature in his upcoming collection preview. Of course, the fact that Assange cannot actually leave the confines of the Ecuadorian embassy where he has been granted asylum, could prove to be a bit of a problem…
But according to the reports, Ben Westwood is apparently happy to host the runway show at the diplomatic enclave. Despite being holed up at the embassy where he has been avoiding extradition to Sweden for alleged sex offences, Assange continues to maintain the whistleblowing website and act as its Editor-in-Chief.
Ben Westwood’s idea behind the event is to ‘highlight the plight of Julian Assange’ who he believes has been treated rather “unfairly”.
“Julian’s been in the embassy for two years and it’s important that he doesn’t slip into obscurity,” he told The Daily Mail.
Assange has proven to be quite a popular individual, entertaining visits from celebrity pals like pop star Lady Gaga. He recently kicked-off rap sensation M.I.A’s New York concert via a Skype video link.
Hollywood A-lister George Clooney and his lawyer fiancée Amal Alamuddin, who was part of Assange’s legal team, have also reportedly been invited to the highly-publicized event.
Whether or not they’ll attend… We’ll just have to wait and see.
