According to a 2012 rich-list published by Forbes magazine, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich ranks the 5th richest person in Russia and the 50th richest person in the world, with an estimated fortune of 8.4 billion pounds. But that’s not all on his list of superlatives…
The Chelsea Football Club boss is also the proud owner of the ‘Eclipse’, the world’s largest and most expensive yacht. Though the Eclipse’s price and size have never been confirmed, it is believed the superyacht stands at a staggering 558 feet long and was built for an eye-watering price tag of nearly half a billion dollars. It should therefore come as no surprise that a week’s vacation on the superyacht reportedly costs up to $2 million.
Being one of the most well-protected men on the planet, Abramovich’s vessel is both bullet and bomb-proof and boasts five exits, a defensive missile system and even a submarine. Other facilities onboard include 20 jet skis, seven decks, a cinema, two helipads, a gym, a hair salon, a dance floor, a library, a private garden, Jacuzzis, saunas and incase Roman gets tired of swimming in saltwater, he always has the option of dipping into the on-board swimming pool.
The Eclipse received the “Superyacht of the Year Award” at the prestigious World Superyacht Awards held in London last year. Though how long it retains this title is yet to be seen, with the proposed “Project Azzam” under-construction and pre-determined to take the title of the World’s Largest Superyacht.
