Petr Cech has been Chelsea’s main shotstopper for years until this season. The Czech international has to play second string to the younger Thibaut Courtois. Courtois is one of the best young goalkeepers today and has a promising future at Stamford Bridge. However, Cech has loads of experience that could be vital to any Barclays Premier League side. According to the Mirror, one of Chelsea’s closest rivals Arsenal have reportedly expressed interest in his signature but the Blues are not prepared to let Cech go to another club in the Premier League.
The 32-year-old has been reportedly linked with Spanish juggernauts Real Madrid. Cech would be a good choice for the Los Blancos considering Iker Casillas is nearing the end of his playing career. Goal reports that outside of foreign clubs, the Gunners will not be allowed to sign Cech by Chelsea.
An Arsenal source was quoted by Goal saying, “Cech is still one of the best goalkeepers around and he would be the perfect signing, but the message from Chelsea is not to bother wasting our time.” Goalkeepers are known to hit their peak between the ages of 31 and 35 so Cech would be ideal at 32. Despite his wishes to be a regular starter, he is open to the idea of sharing the spotlight with Courtois for another season. Cech was quoted by Express saying, “I don’t know what the club’s idea will be. It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut [Courtois] as a duo. But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this.”
If Cech does not leave Stamford Bridge this summer for Real Madrid or elsewhere, then we could see him for another season in England.
