If Shahbaz Sharif can’t go to London, he’s decided to bring London to Lahore! The Punjab Chief Minister inaugurated the latest achievement of his government last week, promising Lahoris a bit of fun to chase away the winter blues power and gas shortages may bring. His magic recipe for happiness? A double-decker joyride.
Sponsored and managed by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Punjab, the open-roof buses will give tourists a ride around the city, taking in all its historic landmarks, all for a princely sum of just Rs. 200.
‘Sightseeing Lahore’ is beginning operations with two buses at the moment, but another three will be arriving from China (where else right?) soon. The double-deckers are decorated in the style of the London sightseeing buses, with pictures of Lahore’s heritage sites painted brightly on the sides, and also, Lahore’s heritage slogan,”Lahore, Lahore Aye”.
The red buses have a seating capacity of 48 passengers on the open upper deck and 18 below. They’re also equipped with a sound system providing an audio tour guide. The double-deckers will commence and end tours at two terminals, one near the Punjab Stadium on Ferozepur Road, and the other on Food Street near the Lahore Fort.
