Summer’s almost round the corner and it’s time to sit at your office desk and daydream about prospective holidays on the horizon. Whether it’s just a relaxing getaway on your own, a fun-filled vacation with friends, or even a ‘destination wedding’, you couldn’t find a better place than Santorini, Greece.

First settled by 9th century Dorians, the group of islands about 200 km southeast of mainland Greece is located on perhaps the only volcano on the planet whose crater lies beneath the sea. The landscape of multi-colored, rugged cliffs soaring over 300m above the crater, and beaches layered with white, red and black lava pebbles, are a reminder of a massive eruption that struck the region in the 16th century.

Santorini today is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Whether you choose to spend a week exploring the towns and villages at leisure, or opt for a three-night tour from Athens, it’s an experience that you’re not likely to forget.

A variety of villages, some cosmopolitan, some laid-back and quiet, vast vineyards, little towns complete with castles, and all around, breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea, are but a few of the things you can look forward to, not to mention the mouthwatering Mediterranean cuisine, which you can indulge in without worrying too much about your waistline.

After all, you can always walk off the extra pounds later.
