In a survey asking millions of air travelers across the world Emirates has been voted the year’s best airline, according to Skytrax.

At the Skytrax World Awards ceremony held at the International Air Show in Farnborough, England, the Dubai-based airline won the top honor in a competition where Middle Eastern airlines have continued to dominate.

Though Turkish Airlines is an emerging favorite capturing a hefty slice of the market, and Virgin Atlantic gets the most customers in North America, Emirates and Qatar Airways have taken the two top spots, with Singapore Airlines, which won the award for best Asian airline, coming in at third. Etihad, another strong Middle Eastern contender, ended up in sixth place with Qantas and Lufthansa coming in at ninth and tenth respectively.

The rankings by Skytrax are based on airline passengers’ evaluation of ‘consistently excellent’ quality of service an airline provides — and Emirates has walked off with top marks, beating all rivals to become the No. 1 customers’ choice.
