Most people will admit to ‘smoking’ pot at least once in their lifetime, but that’s old-school… Here’s the new way to get toasted!
In a stroke of functional brilliance, 24-year-old entrepreneur Henry Mark opened up ‘Stoned Oven Gourmet Pizza’ which specializes in making six-inch marijuana-infused pizzas. With marijuana permitted for medicinal purposes in California, the L.A-based startup has been incorporating Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) extract into their baked Pizzas, adding real meaning to the term ‘Stone Baked’.
Each six-inch frozen snack costs $10 and is said to contain 250 mg of ethanol-extracted THC concentrate from an Indica-dominant hybrid strain. The concentrate is produced in Mendocino, California by an extraction company called The Earth’s Harmony Essentials.The Pizzas are marketed as smoke-free pain relief; for a multitude of ailments including cancer. They retail at most medical marijuana distilleries but as per state law, consumers are not allowed to be served on-site. Hence the pizzas are frozen and can either be picked up or delivered to your doorstep.
The popularity of the product allowed for Mark’s initial output to increase from a few hundred pies a week made by hand in a small parlor, to 2,000-3,000 pizzas a week now prepared in a commercial kitchen.
In an interview with LA Weekly,Mark claims each individual pie is baked from scratch and comes with a caution: ‘You cannot taste one bit of marijuana in there. The pizza is really dangerous because you can trick anyone!’ Mark, who has been working in Marijuana dispensaries since the age of 17, is mainly concerned about the inconsistency associated with edible marijuana products; he advises ‘to eat a quarter of the pizza, drink some water, wait 30 minutes and then decide whether to try some more’.
