Fans of Randeep Hooda and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan are waiting with bated breath ever since news filtered across the border that the makers of the film ‘Sarbjit’, starring the two megastars, are planning to hold a premiere in Pakistan, which will be attended by the cast and crew.
The biographical drama is based on the travails of Indian national Sarbjit Singh, who wandered across the border in Pakistan and was arrested, charged with spying, and spent nearly 30 years in a Pakistani prison. His life ended tragically when he was killed by a fellow-prisoner.
The film already premiered at the Cannes film festival last week, winning critical appreciation for sterling performances by both Hooda and Rai-Bachchan, for whom it is a first foray into a deglamorized role. Randeep Hooda already has many off-beat performances under his belt, including the lead in Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Highway’ in which he starred opposite Alia Bhatt.
Director Omung Kumar has reiterated that contrary to rumors that have been circulating ‘Sarbjit’ is not anti-Pakistan at all; rather it focuses on the trials and tribulations prisoners face in sub-standard jails in India and Pakistan both.
