Pop icon Jennifer Lopez aka J-Lo, will kick-start the festivities in Brazil tonight as the FIFA World Cup 2014 prepares for lift-off.

The 25-minute live performance at the Arena Corinthians Stadium in Sao Paulo will be part of the opening ceremony. J-Lo will take to the stage alongside Grammy award-winning rapper Pitbull, to perform ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ – the official song for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

English media sources had earlier reported that she was cancelling her performance but it has since been confirmed that she will in fact be appearing. After all, even J-Lo can’t pass up an opportunity to perform for a billion+ people.

World Cup songs usually go on to become memorable anthems. 2010’s anthem ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’ by pop star Shakira went on to become a worldwide sensation. And one can’t help but remember Ricky Martin’s anthem ‘The Cup of Life’ for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.

‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ is expected to follow in the same tradition. It was written by nine songwriters with vocal contributions by Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte. Even though it has not had the same mass appeal as previous anthems, it could still become a major hit following tonight’s opening ceremony.

To ensure the performance is a resounding success over 600 artists including dancers, gymnasts, trampoline artists, stilt-walkers and capoeira performers have been preparing for the show in honor of Brazil’s traditions, culture and of course football… The seminal event will be the prologue to the opener between hosts Brazil and underdogs Croatia.

We can expect the skies of Sao Paulo lit up with fireworks tonight as J-Lo and Co. enthrall audiences with an incredible show of music, magic and lights!
