Often touted as Bollywood’s answer to ‘the Godfather’, it appears (again like the Godfather) cult series ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ is set to become a trilogy!
As it turns out Zeishan Quadri, the multi-talented writer of the first two films has a third story in mind, for which he will begin shooting once the script is complete.
While speaking to the Times of India Quadri was quoted saying, “It’s not a sequel or a prequel. If I have to give it a term, I’d call it a mid-equal (laughs). It will have the same timeline and setting as the first two films. Which is why we aren’t calling it part 3 but part 1.5. It will tell a parallel story between the two films.”
Centered around the coal mafia in Dhanbad, the Anurag Kashyap-directed films became two of Indian cinema’s best known exports. Like the Godfather, this is one of the few series where the sequel is as good as the first part (if not better).
According to a leading Indian daily, director Anurag Kashyap has recommended Quadri direct the latest film in the blockbuster franchise after seeing his directorial debut ‘Meeruthiya Gangsters’.
